Richmond's first AAU Boys Basketball Program founded in 1987 by Tony Squire. Tony has dedicated over 20 years of his young life to developing a fine Program for hundreds of players across the state of Virginia as well as surrounding states. Richmond Va. AAu outfits bagan with Squire

Since the Squires inception, more than 400 young men have received scholarships from colleges and universities; 150 have received scholarships to attend prep schools. Some have gained worldwide recognition, including prominent NBA players Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett of the Boston Celtics, and Amare Stoudemire of the New York Knicks ; two NFL players, Darren Sharper of the Minnesota Vikings and Johnathan Lewis of the Jacksonville Jaguars. In addition, 75 athletics have participated in the International Pro League in Europe.

Tony Squire teams have enjoyed many successes and participated in many learning experiences, and are proud of their achievements.

Throught out our existance the Teams have:

  • Participated yearly in sponsored national invitational tournament.
  • Won position playoffs in numerous State AAU championship games.
  • Qualified for the National AAU Championship games.
  • Gained national attention buy Major colleged across the country.
  • Finished in the Top 25 Summer Team Rankings in numerous polls
  • Had as many as Nine squires invited to the influential Adidas ABCD Campconsidered to be the top basketball camp in the United States. The Class of 2003 invites included: Jaron Green(6'10"), Marcus Sikes(6'7"), Brad Byerson(6'8"), Vern Hamilton(6'1"), Dana Burns(6"5"). Class of 2004: Joe Posey(6'6"), Glen Dandridge(6'7"), Cameron Stanley(6'7"), Brandon Freeman(6'4),the SQUIRE program is also responsible for the invite of James Mays(6'9",Raliegh,NC).

The program achievements include:

  • First AAU Program in Central Virginia to be sponsored by a National Shoe Company
  • First to receive Community Service Awards from:  Richmond Public Schools, Richmond City Council, and the Richmond Times Dispatch.
  • First to have a resolution passed in the General Assembly in the program’s name.
  • Astoria Club Citizenship Award
